Sony Xperia SP Root and Install CWM Recovery
The last update that Sony released for its Xperia SP was to firmware 12.0.A.2.254 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Now, Sony has announced that they will be releasing a new update for the Sony Xperia SP, this time to Android 4.3. This new update is set to begin the roll out by December 2013.
Before we get too excited about the newest update, it might be a good idea to make sure your Xperia SP, running firmware 12.0.A.2.254 is rooted. Why? Here are the advantages of a rooted device:
- Complete access to data which would otherwise remain locked by manufacturers.
- Ability to remove factory restrictions.
- Ability to make changes to internal systems as well as the operating system.

Root the Sony Xperia SP:
- Install the Sony Flashtool that you downloaded.
- When it is installed, put the downloaded 0.A.1.257_KernelOnly.wtf ifayile kwifayile Flashtool>Firmware folder
- Open flash tool, you will see the lightning button on the top left corner, click on it then select flash mode. Then select 0.A.1.257_KernelOnly.ft and hit Flash.
- When your device is detected in Flash mode, the flashing process should begin.
- When you see the flashing finished message in the logs, close Flashtool.
- Connect the phone and the PC. Enable ukususa iibhagi kwi-USB mode under Settings > Developer Options.

- When the device is rooted, it will restart. To be sure it is a rooted check that you now have the SuperSu app in your app drawer.
- Place the downloaded, newer kernel file 0.A.2.254_KernelOnly.ftf in C: drive.
- Open Flashtool again, flash the new kernel file using steps 3-4 again.

Flash ClockworkMod custom recovery on Sony Xperia SP:
- Download CWM recovery package. Apha
- Extract the zip file to your PC desktop.
- Turn on USB debugging mode.
- Run Install.bat file from extracted folder.
- Follow instructions on the screen.
